Pestle & Mortar in Setia Alam is best understood as a casual restaurant where the menu spans both local Asian and Western-style dishes, making it a practical choice for a mixed crowd looking for straightforward, affordable meals. Situated along Jalan Setia Prima, this spot appeals especially to working locals who drop by for lunch or early dinner, often finding the place quite busy around peak hours.

The atmosphere here leans toward cozy and unpretentious, with a steady buzz that suggests regular lunchtime rushes and weekend visitors who appreciate value over formality. The staff are generally friendly, especially attentive to families, though service can occasionally feel a bit stretched during busy periods. Seating is indoors, offering a relaxed setting where the focus is on quick, satisfying food rather than lingering over drinks or elaborate presentations.

What stands out on the menu are items like the grilled oregano chicken served with mango salsa, which adds a subtle twist to familiar flavors and offers a decent portion size for the price. The all-day breakfast selections such as eggs Benedict with smoked salmon tend to be a safe bet for those after a classic brunch feel. On the other hand, coffee enthusiasts might find the cafe latte on the watery side, served in glassware that can be awkwardly hot to hold, signaling that the coffee here is more a complement to the meal than the main event.

Those who prefer lighter or plant-based options will find some interest in combos that include quinoa paired with dishes like fried tofu with Thai sauce, showing that the kitchen moves beyond mere staples. For drinkers of iced tea or green tea lattes, the portions lean generous, catering well to the warm Malaysian climate.

Overall, Pestle & Mortar suits visitors who want a no-frills spot to share a meal with colleagues or family, at an accessible price point, in a setting that’s comfortably busy but not overly polished. The best times to go are just before or after typical office lunch hours to avoid the rush, and anyone coming here should expect a straightforward dining experience focused on hearty, modestly adventurous flavors rather than gourmet refinement.

The place was packed. And from what I gather, it is always like that. The food served is good and has a good taste profile. The Grilled Oregano Chicken was good. Served with mango salsa. It's quite unique for this sort of pricing. The size of the chicken is also good. The roasted chicken beast with cherry tomatoes was done just nice. The service is average. I can see that they are under staff as they are working under stress. Nonetheless, they are trying to extend a cordial service. Overall, it is a good place to go to for basically anything as they have both Western and oriental.

Their nuggets taste really good tho. The rest I’ve no comment, you can get better western food at Pan&Wine/Elizabeth/Aromakafei, at a different price of course. They have a variety of choices from western to local Asian, come at a very friendly price. But again, don’t have too high hope on the taste. Erm…the waiters are being really friendly to my daughter, not sure what happened to the rest of the customers? But I still wonder why it is always crowded?

The eggs Benedict and smoked salmon on toast was done perfectly. Grilled chicken with black pepper sauce was good too. The cafe latte looked great but the coffee was too diluted with the milk. No coffee smell at all and they should serve it with a cup instead. The coffee served on glass was hot to hold. The place is cozy, staff are nice and the prices are reasonable.

Surprised at how mid the reviews are for this place, but honestly, I’ve been here twice in the past week and my experience has been nothing like the negative ones I’ve read. The food here is super affordable, probably the best value you can get. I’ve been loving their quinoa with different side dishes, and my favorite combo is the fried tofu with Thai sauce + a side of quinoa. My partner tried the seaweed tofu soup and then the eggs with bitter gourd, and both were a perfect fit for our tastebuds. From both visits, the service has been great. The waiters were attentive, and we had a lot of questions and specific requests about our food which they handled really well, even when we ended up not ordering some of the items. As for drinks, don’t miss their yoghurt blended drinks! My personal favorite is the tropical fruit flavor. P/s: my partner would suggest their signature fried glass noodles/tanghoon, apparently it’s his go-to meal to order if he’s not on a diet

The ambience is beautiful and it's a busy place as working people mostly would have lunch here. The price is really reasonable and for the drinks, they're pretty standard. The food portion is rational and delicious!. The drink is generous and tasty too. The staff are friendly and the waiting time is standard. Worth the money definitely. Visiting again soon!

On a cold rainy day, the food and crew at Pestle and Mortar warmed our hearts (and stomach). Food was deliciously well portioned, and service was friendly. We had a small mix-up yet the workers calmly pointed out where we mixed up our order. We came again later in the evening as it still rained for dinner and ordered their Asian Tai Chow dishes. The fish curry (RM 25) and Egg Foo Yong (RM13 for version with Hainan sauce) were standouts- and once again, very well worth the price paid. Our new favorite cafe
